About Amy Hayre
I am a printmaker and illustrator creating original, hand-carved artwork inspired by nature, folklore, and the deep narratives that connect them. My work bridges the natural world and Celtic heritage—whether I’m carving a linocut print of native Irish flora or breathing life into a mythological creature from Scottish folklore.
Every piece is an original design, blending traditional relief printmaking with a focus on rich texture and cultural storytelling.
My Creative Path
I earned my BFA in Illustration from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, graduating summa cum laude. My studies focused on visual storytelling, composition, and traditional media—all of which continue to shape my printmaking practice today. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Education from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. My years teaching language and literature deeply strengthened my lifelong appreciation for stories, symbolism, and cultural traditions.
Artistic Approach & Process
My work is inspired by both quiet observation and ancient story. Every piece begins as a hand-drawn sketch before the design is refined and transferred to a linoleum block.
From there, the carving begins: slow, detailed, and completely hands-on. Once the block is carved, I roll ink across the surface, lay the paper down, and burnish it by hand to reveal the final print. Some pieces remain classic single-layer prints, while others receive hand-painted watercolor details. Because of this handmade journey, no two prints are ever exactly alike.

I love bringing educational and cultural stories to life. I recently illustrated the book Can You Read… Killarney National Park?, a collaborative project created with WildStork and written by Neil Rosen.
Stationery & Studio Goods:
To make art accessible for everyday spaces, I adapt my original designs into high-quality stationery, stickers, journals, and everyday goods.
